Short answer
Check in three passes: (1) use an area view (FCC National Broadband Map or our providers-by-area page) to build a shortlist; (2) run your exact street address through each shortlisted provider’s own checker; (3) confirm orderability — install work, fees, waitlists — before you commit. No single website can honestly skip steps 2–3.
Step 1 — Explore by area (shortlist, don’t decide)
Start wide. The FCC National Broadband Map shows which providers report service around your location, by technology and advertised speed. Our own internet providers page explains what each technology means for real use. At this stage you’re answering one question: who is plausibly here? Expect the list to be optimistic — provider-reported maps overstate availability at the edges.
Step 2 — Verify at the address (each provider’s checker)
Fixed-internet availability is address-specific — a ZIP code can’t answer it, and two neighbors can have different options. Enter your full address, including the unit number for apartments, in each shortlisted provider’s availability tool. The unit number is there for the provider’s order system, not for the federal map: the FCC’s location dataset — the Broadband Serviceable Location Fabric — records an apartment or condo building as a single serviceable location and keeps its units only as a unit count, never mapped one by one. The FCC’s Broadband Data Task Force adopted that design on the expectation that “the status of broadband availability is likely to be consistent across all units in a single structure” — an assumption built into the dataset, not a measurement of your building. So no federal source can tell you whether 4B differs from 4C; only the provider’s own checker, with the unit number in it, can.
Step 3 — Confirm you can actually order
“Available” on a checker is still not a guarantee you can order today. Before you commit — especially before a move — confirm directly with the provider: whether service is orderable now or needs construction, the install type and timeline, the total monthly cost with equipment and fees, any data caps or contracts, and whether a waitlist applies. If the answer affects a housing decision, get it in writing.
Step 4 — Cross-check the physical layer
For rentals, condos, and new builds, the deciding factor is often what’s physically in the building: existing coax or fiber wiring, a fiber drop at the property line, or an exclusive wiring arrangement from a previous era. Ask the landlord or property manager what current tenants use, and ask neighbors what they actually get. If you work from home, also sanity-check the speeds you really need before paying for more.

What is the fastest way to see all internet providers at my address?
There is no single tool that is both complete and address-accurate. The fastest reliable method is two steps: use an area view (like the FCC National Broadband Map) to build a shortlist, then run your exact address through each shortlisted provider’s own checker. Only the provider can confirm you can actually order.
Why do different websites list different providers for my address?
Most comparison sites work from area-level or provider-reported data, which lags reality and overstates availability at the edges. Serviceability also genuinely differs house by house — wiring, drops, and capacity vary — so area lists and address truth rarely match perfectly.
Do I need to give my full address to check availability?
To get a real answer, eventually yes — fixed-internet availability is address-specific, and provider checkers need the address to answer. Start with ZIP/area exploration if you prefer to share less, and give the full address only to providers you are seriously considering.

Limitations & caveats
- Step 1 sends you to the FCC National Broadband Map, but we could not open broadbandmap.fcc.gov from our checking setup on September 13, 2026 — the site refused our requests and its public API requires credentials. What is sourced here is the law and the rules governing what the map contains, not the map release it is currently displaying.
- “Available” in the federal data means a provider is capable of a standard broadband installation — a routine install completed within 10 business days, with no charges or delays for extending its network. That is a capability, not a booked appointment, which is why step 3 exists.
- GAO’s finding is that the accuracy of the map’s availability data is uncertain. That is not the same as a measured overstatement, and we do not claim a specific error rate on this page.
- Whether serviceability actually differs between units of the same building is still unsourced here. The FCC’s Fabric specification tells us only how the data is built — one location record per residential structure, with the units carried as a count — and states the Commission’s expectation that availability is consistent across those units; that is a design assumption, not a measurement of real buildings. The rest of the FCC record we found describes building-level obstacles — inside wiring arrangements and exclusive agreements — rather than unit-level ones. Entering the unit number anyway is our own operating advice.
- Filing dates move. The rule fixes the cycle at March 1 and September 1, reporting data as of the previous December 31 and June 30; the most recent window closed September 1, 2026 for data as of June 30, 2026. The map release you see may be older than that.
- If a checker is wrong about your address, the FCC runs a challenge process for exactly that, and it expects evidence of a request — or attempted request — for service.

- Verify fiber separately, since an area map showing fiber rarely means a drop at your house
